IFM® Functional Medicine Practitioner | Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Specialist
Louise is an IFM®-trained (view practitioner profile) and Master’s-qualified Functional Medicine Practitioner. Unusually - she is also a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) expert, a skillset she has refined since 2010 and applies daily in clinical practice.
In 2019, after refusing to accept her lifelong health struggles as “normal” - and having encountered non-sensical disinterest from multiple medical professionals - she made a decisive career change to pursue Functional Medicine full time.
Initially, through this model, Louise reversed her own autoimmune, endocrine, and gastrointestinal conditions (including thyroid disease, PCOS, and IBS - all medically diagnosed in childhood). But several years later, during a period of apparently excellent health, she experienced a sudden and severe health collapse, seemingly triggered by a minor infection. It later became clear that this had not been an infection at all - despite apparent person-to-person “spread” - but rather a tipping point in a much deeper web of environment-gene dynamics.
Her symptoms - arbitrary and cyclical tachycardia at rest, resultant violent insomnia (0hrs/night commonly seen), shifting unexplained issues and fluctuating but deibilitating fatigue - were so strange that medical specialists began testing her for a rare disease. Louise chose to step away from that pathway, recognising that mainstream medicine’s response was limited to a normal EKG, a prescription for propranolol (a drug she was placed on as a child), and a discharge. “Everything normal here”.
Louise has worked hard - though now advocates for working smarter - to become and remain completely drug-free: physiologically functional.
She freely admits that her Functional Medicine education alone had not - and could not - prepare her for the real-life biological complexity she encountered. It was RCA - with its foundation in system mapping, layered investigation, and pattern recognition - that gave her the foundations for correct analysis and interpretation.
She now wishes this same level of clarity, depth, and resolution for every patient she works with.
Louise has completed thousands of hours of advanced training across biomedicine, environmental medicine, epigenetics & nutrigenomics, nutritional biochemistry, pathology & terrain-based models and naturopathic disciplines. She has trained with:
Aberdeen’s School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition
The Institute for Functional Medicine® (IFM®)
The Kalish Institute for Functional Medicine
The College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM)
The Functional Genomics Institute
The Global Healing Institute
Louise applies systems-thinking and deep pattern recognition to uncover and support the body’s healing mechanisms, particularly in the following areas:
Failure of nutrient functioning (even in “perfect” diets)
Terrain disruption (dysbiosis, immune dysfunction, chronic infections)
Exposome burden (toxins, toxicants, endocrine disruptors, VOCs, heavy metals)
The role of genetics in the above
She maintains practitioner access to all leading functional labs, including:
Regenerus UK (Doctor’s Data, Precision Analytics, Omnos, Mosaic Diagnostics)
Genova Diagnostics
Nordic Labs
She also facilitates specialist investigations where justified, such as:
Metal hypersensitivity testing (via Switzerland only)
Cavitation screening
MARCoNS screening and CIRS assessment
Where clinically appropriate, Louise collaborates with trusted specialists and clinics to ensure patient care remains precise, personalised, and truly root-cause-led.
This may include referrals for:
Referrals to other health specialisms (imaging, advanced medical scans)
Specialist and comprehensive remediation protocol packages (e.g. environmental)
Health coaching
Psychological support
Nutritional therapy support
Referrals can be either practitioner-led or patient-led, depending on individual preference and need.
